Smart and impressive: lighting systems for furniture
Needs-based smart control
The latest lighting systems adapt to different room use scenarios. They control the light precisely, adjusting where it appears and its effect: bright for working, cosy and warm for eating or dimmed for TV viewing. Intelligent systems such as Naber’s LUMICA® LIC LED can control both individual lights and entire groups of lights. The lighting system developed by the interzum exhibitor creates lighting scenarios, saves them and adapts them flexibly to changes in the interior design or the room’s use. It can be connected to an intelligent building control system to enable motion- or voice-activated lighting scenarios.

A new dimension of flexibility
Modern lighting solutions stage interiors intelligently, connecting them with the furniture inside them. A highly effective example is the LD 8177 lighting system developed by interzum exhibitor ELEKTRA. Its special feature: Additional elements such as shelves and brackets can be easily added to visually enhance niches. A selection of variants makes it possible to create an atmospheric ambience that radiates light from either above, below or behind. The system brings niches and kitchen furniture together, making them appear as one.

Invisible technology
Modern built-in lights combine exceptional efficiency with the ability to blend subtly into their surroundings. Hera has developed two high-performance recessed lights specially for space-saving applications. The low-glare AR 35 is an effective spotlight with an installation depth of just 13 millimetres. Its counterpart is the AR 45 flat recessed LED light, which has an even lower installation height of merely 11 millimetres. The lights are suitable for any situation that calls for lighting design and accent lighting – from shelving and furniture to shops and salesrooms.

A systematic approach to further development
The operation of lighting today is customized, based on a variety of scenarios and switching systems. The new Lighting Division at interzum exhibitor Häfele is exploring the possibilities that this opens up. The team furnished the rooms in the MM:NT Berlin Lab hotel with different lighting designs that can be adapted to every need – and equipped them with a smart Connect Mesh system. The hotel opened last July as a living laboratory for solutions in existing buildings. Its digital environment operates in an ongoing beta mode, continually gathering feedback from guests to further its development.

Trends and innovations
Minimalism, intelligent control and connected solutions for illumination for furniture and interiors will be in the spotlight once again at the forthcoming edition of interzum. From 20 to 23 May 2025, the leading international trade fair for suppliers to the furniture industry will return with a showcase of innovations from the lamps and lighting systems segment. Exhibitors from across the world will gather to present pioneering concepts such as efficiency maximisation, AI control and smart building solutions for intelligently illuminating living spaces.
