Modern update using renewable raw materials

Exhibitor SUN WOOD by Stainer is preparing to showcase its updated take on linoleum at interzum. “Furniture Linoleum” is a slightly elastic material developed for furniture finishes and floors. SUN WOOD uses large-format laser and milling machines to give the linoleum sourced from manufacturer Forbo a unique design. Scratch-resistant lacquer is applied to the surface of the material to create a variety of wood and concrete designs, bespoke prints or single-colour finishes – for the first time, now also including white. The feel of the product remains almost the same as the original. Three-dimensional surface finishes such as tree bark are also available.

Super-matt lacquer

The concept of super-matt finishes for furniture fronts has been perfected by Spanish exhibitor Alvic – and the result will be presented at interzum. The latest generation of Alvic’s Zenit product is highly resistant to scratches and abrasion. What’s more, it can now be used for both horizontal and vertical applications for the first time. Available in more than 60 designs, the product’s microscopic surface structure minimises the reflection of light to give a super-matt finish. The lacquering process ensures maximum colour stability and prevents volatile organic compounds from being released into the atmosphere.

Ultra-matt look opens up new options

Rehau is also offering a new super-matt range of surfaces for unique design solutions. “Kaleido Mattex” makes it possible to create extremely matt decorative finishes for windows in interior construction projects. With their sand-matt texture, the surfaces are reminiscent of powder-coated aluminium and available in a colour spectrum ranging from white to black, including various intermediate shades. The product’s robust construction ensures that it is durable and tough. These properties give window professionals high-quality design options for every window and allow them to constantly update their range of finishes.

Thin-walled slabs made of natural stone

Lightness with natural stone

At the upcoming interzum, Italian exhibitor Ionia Pietre Naturali will show how thin slabs of quartzite can make interiors look light and airy. The company uses a combination of skilled craftsmanship and new technologies to produce slabs with a translucent surface finish. In a semi-industrial production process, the stone is sliced extremely thinly and cut at a 45-degree angle to create geometric shapes. The use of these slabs transforms bathroom and kitchen walls into eye-catching backlit features.

The vibrant look of reclaimed timber

interzum exhibitor Grabner transfers the natural structure and sensual feel of weathered wood to various base boards. The Austrian company takes moulds of particularly beautiful grain structures in reclaimed timber and imprints them onto the surface of its panels. These “Prägeboards” (embossed panels) have a veneer top layer and a core consisting of a high-quality base board. Their authentic, matt and splinter-free finish has the appearance of solid wood. Unlike solid wood, however, the panels are designed to be cut with minimal wastage and allow for more consistent calculations for furniture production.

Nature: central to production and finish

Lombardo’s panels are made exclusively from virgin wood sourced from sustainably grown poplar trees. The Italian exhibitor specialises in high-quality melamine-coated chipboard. Its Edition 2025 collection has been expanded to include new natural wood finishes. As the name suggests, “Natura” is an exceptionally true-to-nature oak finish that is suitable for many different settings. Also new to Lombardo’s range are “Corallo”, with an earthy red hue, and “Sabbia”, featuring a beige-gold sand colour.

With their latest products, interzum’s exhibitors demonstrate the innovative spirit of the supplier industry. Novel surface finishes give rise to new applications and design options when it comes to furniture and interior construction. In a changing market, this is how manufacturers are remaining flexible and adaptable. interzum will showcase further innovations from this segment in Cologne from 20 to 23 May.
